Faith and Nathan went on a youth mission trip to Savannah August 3-10. This is Faith's story in her own words:
Eleven people went on Salmon Valley’s youth mission trip. There were six kids and five adults. We went to work with an organization called Bags of Faith. We Left the church at ten o’clock Wednesday August 3rd and drove to the Idaho Falls airport. Our plane left at 3:30pm and flew to Salt Lake City. From there we flew to Atlanta, where we spent the night. The next morning, we drove to Statesboro, GA. That afternoon we worked at the Bags of Faith warehouse. On Friday we spent the morning work at the Statesboro Food Bank. In the Afternoon we worked with another organization called Hope Chest. Saturday, we drove to Savanah and gave food and supplies to the homeless people there. On Sunday we went to church at Grace Community Church. That afternoon we had fun sliding down a water slide. Monday morning, we split up into two groups. The boys went back to Savanah, while the girls worked with the Hope Chest again. The people working at the Hope Chest got to go into the Walmart Distribution center, because Hope Chest takes damaged shipments from Walmart and gives them to people who need them. Tuesday, we spent the day at the beach. On Wednesday August 10th we woke up at 4:00am to get to the Atlanta airport. We then flew back to Salt Lake City Where we had a three-hour layover. We flew from Salt Lake City to Idaho Falls. We arrived at the church at 9:00pm. Our nightly Bible Studies were about evangelism 101. One thing that really stuck out to me was how the gospel doesn’t change but the way we share it does.

The first Rodeo Bible Camp in Rexburg was held this week with approximately 25 kids attending. They learned rodeo skills and heard the gospel during chapel held twice each day. While there were no decisions, seeds were sown throughout the week. The event ended Thursday with family church, the rodeo, and an awards presentation. It was great to have the gospel preached in this city that so desperately needs the gospel.
Rodeo Bible Camp started started on Sunday and ended late Wednesday afternoon following the rodeo, family chapel, and awards ceremony. We never got the exact number of campers but it was in the 20s. On Tuesday night, there were 7 baptisms. It was a great week.
Lake Avenue Community Church is a church plant in Pueblo, Colorado looking to launch in the next year. They were given an old church building along with some funds from the sale of houses around the building after the church closed in the Bessemer area of Pueblo. This will be the only evangelical church in a one mile radius of the church in a neighborhood that desperately needs the gospel. Pastor Scott and wife Marianne are building a church planting team and working to build relationships in the community. We joined a mission team from Tennessee and our goal was to paint the entire sanctuary, finish bathrooms off the sanctuary, trim windows, and pull old carpet and lay new tile squares in the sanctuary. We were able to get everything done but the bathrooms as we found structure issues with the stage and redirected our efforts there. We rented a lift for painting the walls and we challenged when we had to get the lift in and out of the building. The building is now finished enough that they can begin holding some meetings in the building. We look forward to seeing how the Lord is going to work in Lake Avenue and in Pueblo. The permit for the duplex at Salmon Valley Baptist Church came on the 20th. The footers have been poured and the work on the foundation is ongoing. Several people from the church have stepped in to provide expertise and labor and we are so grateful for them all.
We have spent the last two weeks at Clark Fork Fellowship in Superior, MT. Prairie Hills Baptist Church from Augusta , KS returned this year. The focus for them this year was primarily the basement although they did paint the church office as well. Carpet was ripped out, the glue grinded off, and the floors primed and painted. The removal of the carpets got rid of the lingering odor. Trim painting was also done and a team from Tennessee will roll the walls in July. The team was once again amazing with their hard work and great attitudes. We are always blessed when we work with this team and at the this church plant.
The first ever Lemhi River Cowboy Church Rodeo Bible Camp happened this weekend. The camp was for school-aged kids who wanted to learn or improve their rodeo skills. The church chose to do it before the high school rodeo season started so the kids could have the opportunity to get themselves and their horses ready for the season. They focused on horsemanship, barrels, poles, goat tying, calf roping, and team roping. When the kids were not focusing on rodeo clinic, they could do leatherwork, tie dye t-shirts, braid, rope, or just hang out with friends. Today culminated with a community dinner, cowboy church, the rodeo, and the awards presentation. The kids had a great time and the Lord was working in a mighty way. Enjoy the pictures below.
River Cafe at Clark Fork Fellowship is complete. It has been painted and trimmed. New vinyl was laid. The counter was completely remade. It turned out great and will be a great ministry of the church.
Clark Fork Fellowship has been blessed with two partnerships this year. Prairie Hills Baptist Church from Kansas brought a mission team in late May. A team from the Cumberland area of Tennessee came in September. One area of the church building shows this partnership in a beautiful way. The team from Tennessee brought the couches and the ottoman. This provides another area where groups from the community can gather. One of the members of the Kansas mission team returned this fall to paint the mural. We think he did an amazing job.
The town of Superior, Montana has only one public place outside of the bars where you can gather with others to visit and that is the local restaurant. Clark Fork Fellowship has a vision of providing a café for people to congregate and enjoy some coffee and fellowship. Nathan has been working on that project for the last couple weeks. This is the room before work began. Notice the lovely cabinets against the back wall. Nathan has been working on those cabinets to make them more presentable. The walls in the café were painted last week. The cabinet have been painted and are being reconfigured.
Stay tuned for the finished project. |
